  • Slowox 8 hours ahead of drinking and decanted just before drinking. At opening, was not too closed but benefited from some air; would treat future bottles in same manner. Nice bouquet of mature fruit (stewed plums) and herbs from the get go. Nice garnet with bricking. Balanced herb forward taste with some light fruit, hint of licorice with a bit of structure and fully integrated tannins. Mid to light mouthfeel. Some light integrated and agreeable sediment (not what was left in bottle at decanting), but not cloudy. Friend had difficulty guessing wine; does not correspond to typical, younger bandols--much more subtle and complex, although garrigue still shines through. May have a been a bit better a few years earlier with a bit more power, but this is still a fantastic wine. Much more balanced and mature vs 2007 that I had a fews back (and which I also still have more of in my cellar). Paired perfectly with venison. Time to drink remaining bottles. Bandol continues to have stellar QPR; aged version of a top wine from this region is a revelation.

  • Dark roasty notes of espresso beans, aromas & flavors of old forest fire. Serious.. deep & satisfying black earthy fruits. Powerful tannic structure perfectly in balance with fruit & acidity. Profound.. lengthy finish not unlike pure, strict Islay scotch whisky. My wine of the nite... among many fine reds (and whites). This makes a compelling argument for Bandol red at any momentous dinner.

  • Crunchy, old school Bandol, loved it! Tannins and earth.

  • Very tight upon opening - even a slight hint of bitterness. Wonderful after 1 day of being open - light hint of deep red cherries and quite smooth.

  • Quite shy at first, then a subtle blend of garrigue strawberry and leather on the nose, with some blackberry and spices in the background. In the mouth, a thick, velvety blend of blackberry and wild strawberry, cinnamon and nutmeg appearing midpalate, before a fairly long finish. Not bad at all but still rather monolithic, I liked the overall balance and mouthfeel but it still needs a good five years - it was much better on the third night.

(Château de Pibarnon Bandol) Rich ruby-garnet in the glass, with notes of plum, tar, pancetta, and stewed tomato, the wine is soft, round, and earthy at first, but then slightly gripping fruit tannins and fresh acidity kick in. This Bandol is showing its maturity. Provence: Heaven for the Senses

(Chateau de Pibarnon Bandol Rouge) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-dark chocolate & cranberry; gorgeous; a little new car leather smell as well; PALATE-very big wine; quite tannic; this wine has "balls"; good structure; lots of dark fruit exploding on the mid-palate (black currants; blackberries, blueberries); then transitions to grainy / earthy tone on the back-end; I like the bitter tannins; a black tea component on the finish as well; the length is quite silky and smooth; get little itsy bitsy blueberries dancing in your mouth and I like it; the flavor profile is exceptional; great length; this is a real stellar effort at $38 bones; this wine trumps many $70-$100 CdP's, Bordeaux's and Cali Cabernets; this is spectacular and well made; will last 7-15 years easy; great with a steak; great wine; WS-95; GV-92+
