Cork fell in. Had to decant. Was not tainted though. Started with a beautiful burgandy color with brown hues. The nose is overally fruity. Like a jar of home canned strawberry jam left on the shelf and recently discovered. Petroleum comes and once that parts the memory of spice that once was comes out.
Paper thin, but reminces of a bolder wine. After the fruit sensations disapate, small black pepper notes with the taste of fresh canteloupe. On a second taste and after about 15inutes the wine has come to life with little more life. cherries, strawberries and a marmaladey taste come through.
This wine hasn't given up yet, but definitely had more life in previous years. Excited to try other vintages and makers.

Guigal tasting with Christopher Cannan (Caro's Wines, Auckland, New Zealand): exuberant - very peppery with considerably more character than the 2006 crozes tasted just before. a completely involving nose that precedes a taste that does not quite live up to the promise of the nose. an excellent result considering the vintage and this would make a delightful inexpensive restaurant wine.

Guigal masterclass with Christopher Canan (Regional wines and spirits, Wellington): A little cracked pepper and some liquorice on the nose. Fairly round mouthfeel. Good length with soft powdery tannins.

Awkward nose and sour fruit. Why does a producer like Guigal let a wine like this out on the market?

Slightly tannic, lacking fruit. Medum nose
