In the running for shocker of the year so far. Not only because of how youthful it was, but in how it cleaned house at a small Syrah tasting with my local group.

I popped this ahead of time to try a glass because I was a bit skeptical of how it would show…my jaw about dropped when I smelled this wine. My goodness…deep and dark florals, violet, stemmy green herbs, black pepper. Wonderfully balanced and integrated on the palate. Whole cluster profile shines through in a supporting role, with the pepper-crusted blackberries, mocha, olive, charcoal. Not rich, not lean, fastball down the middle. Nervy acidity still. This has a cool-climate vibe to it with just a kick of richness to really seduce you. Brilliant. I may have underscored this.

  • Beautiful and singing. Deep blue plum, twigs, dirt and honey.

  • Deep garnet in color, dense. Fruity nose. Plums and dark fruit with spice and earthy on palate with great complexity. The depth is wonderful and well balanced in a way that is very pleasing.

  • PnP and drank two glasses. VacUVined and in the frig for 5 days. (Don’t ask.) Then drank remaining over 2+ hour. Opaque reddish purple. No orange rim! Full-bodied w/o being jammy. Earthy. Anise predominates. Still pleanty of fruit. Dark fruit with faint hints of raspberry and cherry. Still opened up tonight. Plenty of life left. Hard to believe this wine is 14 years old.

  • Needed alot of air. Initial glass at one hour of air exposure was very tight. By the third hour it was winning the room. Had with Mild Szechuan and the 09 same vineyard, and producer. This wine showed alot of youthful character including some cedar and dark fruits. Not brambly as other Syrah and no sign of that tell tale ( too me) iro like taste in the front of other syrah. No Rush to drink this
