Moldy cork that collapsed on initial corkscrew contact. It took a little while for this one to come around, but it was surprisingly good given the initial appearance of the bottle and wine, which was lighter in color in the decanter. Given a little decant time and some swirling and some nice tobacco, earth and mushroom characteristics came through along with some light berry notes. I wouldn't mind having a few more bottles of this around.
The color is brick with hints of orange to the rim. The aromas are leather, earth, currant, cherry, raw meat, with bell pepper, and some anise. The tastes are cranberry, tea, sour cherry, earth, subtle spicey notes, mushroom, and dry red fruit. The tannins are integrated and the finish is elegant.
