At its peak. Complex and mature bouquet with red ripe fruits, spices some chocolate and just a little bit of pleasant barnyard. Same on the palate. Harmonious wine. Completely ready. Do not wait many more years it is still a beauty now.

I've drunk over a case of the '04 VV, from three different sources. This was the first of 6 bottles I bought last year from a private cellar, and I was optimistic that they would show better than the last 6 I bought from a store in DC, which were a bit dried out and advanced, compared to the intial 6 I bought on release... Happy to report that this bottle was in excellent shape. Wide open, expressive, and fully mature, with typical aromas of earth, game and blood. On the palate, soft, broad texture, with earthy / gamey notes, a slight metallic component and minerality at its core. Fruit faded at this point. Fully mature and currently flattered by its age... No reason to cellar this one any longer - drink up.

Fat, plummy, ripe. Nice, but needs more grip or bite to lift it.
