30 years of wine collecting and tasting, but this was a novelty. Believe it or not, there was a wasp in this bottle. Here is the story: This is one of my favorite Bordeaux and I have plenty of 2000 Pape-Clement in my cellar, so I know exactly how it tastes. I opened this bottle and it as strangely tannic, earthy with compressed aromas. Hmm, I thought, but since there are bottle variations with older wines, I decided to decant it. Once I finished decanting I saw a big piece of "cork" swimming on top of the decanter. After I poured that piece of "cork" into a glass to remove it, I noticed that it was a wasp, not cork. Wow, what a freak accident. I will keep the wasp to tell the story and next time I visit the Chateau. :-)

(Pape Clement) Awesome nose. Oaky buy has enough fruit and nuance to counteract the oak. Exotic mushrooms, mint, smoke, black fruits, wet earth, green peppercorn. Really multidimensional. Flavors of red fruits & cocoa on the palate. Ripe and juicy with a stony finish. Gobs and gobs of fruit with no shortage of tannin.
(Château Pape Clément) Great, rich, berry nose; rich, complex, plush, juicy palate with velvety tannins; medium-plus finish

Lovely wine! Typical Pessac, smoky, strong, lots of fruit... has 10-15 years to come.

Youthful and greenish; gravel; tannins mostly resolved; light berry and lean balanced finish.
