  • Bottle was disappointing - drinkable, but tired and seemingly lacking in fruit. Not a patch on 1990 Pegau and Beaucastel. Will try another bottle soon to confirm. This only 90-91pts

  • Wow. This is big. The first thing that hits you is immense black fruits. Super tannic. Mouth puckering. The warmth and ripeness is apparent - 14.5% alcohol). But it covers the alcohol well. Great wine. Good with red meat.

  • the last of my bottles and a bit of a disappointment - the bouquet had a very disconcerting "taint" even after a day which carried only faintly through to the wine but did detract

  • Wine dinner hosted by my dear friend Rainer. Wine #9 (non-blind). Tasted alongside the pleasurable 1985 and the ripe and broad 1998. Unbelievable how different the three wines are!

The 1990 was dark ruby in colour, much darker than the 1985, and much fruitier. On the palate, the wine showed good dark fruit, garrigue, lots of spice and liquorice, with lively acidity, fine, well-integrated tannin and very good length. The tannin was still quite present. This well-structured wine has plenty of life left. For drinking now, I preferred the lovely 1985, but if I had the choice I would buy a case of both: the 1985 for drinking and the 1990 for the cellar… 93+

  • Shared with 2 friends and we were blown away with how much fruit this still has. It was fabulous on every level. Did not decant, but over a an hour after opening the wine had evolved and turned from a tad lean to rich and flavor-full. I store my bottles at 52-53 degrees and I am sure that has helped. I have had the wine for at least 12 years. This is the second of 5 bottles that I have had and totally enjoyed over the past 4 years. Such a great, consistent producer.
