Haunting mature Burg nose - really spectacular. Lovely balance still but with time getting a little less intense. Overall superb performance for a 1996 PC.

Nose is both black and red cherry, great purity and freshness to the red and density and power in the black. Smells elegant and beautiful but also bold in a Meo sort of way. The spice takes a few minutes to really develop but shows up just beautifully, not oaky baking spices, but black pepper, tea, bay leaf, cola, in a very Vosne - Richebourg - Beaumonts direction. The palate has loads of red and black cherry too, soft silky texturally, pure, clean, and powerful. Not particularly rustic, more fresh and pure. ‘96 acid is a touch high but there is another beauty and detail that it’s no problem. Showing really nicely, imagine this is about peak and don’t see much more upside as the fruit is technically matching the acid right now. Very proper. 92 - 93.

Great Wine Dinner, No Wine Theme (Tzuco - Chicago IL): Red and black cherry throughout with very savory spice. Good depth and balance, this is consistently a very elegant 1996.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Age appropriate maturity with dense red fruit, earth hints and so much spice, all providing layers of glorious complexity.

Epure blind. Sweet, rubbery aromatics. Very fruit forward. Not behaving particularly sophisticated, but very decadent and fun.
