  • This is truly an amazing wine. Second time with this and it and my oh my, air has given this sleeping ghost new life. The nose is still shy but now I realize that it’s from the coolness of the wine and it’s rather menthol. It’s cold and green in a very unique way. With time it gained muscle and showed age in the form of sweet barnyard with more fruit and the same muscle without ever being sweet. It was a wowing experience akin to the ones I’ve had with aged merryvale profile from great vintages, especially the 1997. Based on this experience this wine is very cellar worthy, but also a fascinating chameleon to follow and watch right now. The 2 inches of wine that sat in the bottle from Saturday evening to Monday night were the most amazing. Nothing more to say

  • Another beautifully dry made wine from US. Classy, mercury like in the glass, the wine has a deep but exotic appearance full of health and class. This has an incredible finish that shows 10 years younger. This is so integrated, yet vibrant and erect that it can steal the show. I would have never guessed Washington red. Another stumper making me realize that I dont know all that much in the face of wines like this. Kudos to the maker. Drink with no hurry

  • This Cab stands tall and austere with a strong backbone. A pine/cedar quality watersheds into a chasm of expressive dark mulberries and blackberry. Fantastic 95+

  • (mostly a) 2009 international cabernet tasting: Tasted blind, popped corks 2 hours before drinking. My favorites in order:
    1. 2009 Leoville Poyferre (96): Ripe, concentrated, dark fruits, oaky, tasted new world
    2. 2009 Dominus (95): Oaky, dark fruit profile, less old world than expected
    3. 2009 Quilceda (93): Oaky, big, darkest fruit profile
    4. 2009 Sheridan Block 1 (91): Ripe, sweet but balanced
    5. 2010 Ornellaia (?): Slight brett taint, which I’m sensitive to
    6. 2009 Leoville Las Cases (90): Acidic, lean, austere compared to others
