Another amazing example of this vineyard. Complex nose with layers of sweet and savory flavors: sweet cherry, Tabasco, roast meat, barnyard, leather, and so many other things. I just want to sit and smell it for hours. Nice sweet attack on the palate, with many of the flavors in the nose, with a touch of acidity to lift the sweetness and encourage another sip. So incredibly smooth. There is a nice medium weight in the mouth. The finish goes on and on.
Update: After about 4-5 hours in decanter this started to fade a bit. Not quite as complex as earlier, and not holding up as well as the 2011 BF (though that is perhaps no surprise). Still for the first few hours I would say a solid 95.
This was drinking so well right now. very approachable, with good fruit on entry but lots of depth on the middle palate, and a lovely finish. There is some of the funk, but not overwhelming by any means. At Mike and Angie's post wedding dinner, so did not take detailed notes! I do think these wines will last a good while. This is one of the better Cayuse 2004s I have had -- some of the others have been a bit too fruit forward for my taste.
Excellent! Hedonistic, exuberant, sexy wine. Great balance. True shiraz nose with some surprising extra's. Ripe black fruit, plums, cassis, cocoa, pepper, tobacco, beautiful wood, jammy, fine mineral scent, integrated tannins, dry aged meat. Fresh and savory on the palate, long and broad finish. Will stay alive for at least 10 years.
18th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Lyon Down Inn): Hedonistic wine with an open nose of black fruit, spice, pepper, bacon fat, and tar. Similar on the palate with a thicker texture than most this evening. Fell way off overnight becoming shorter and slightly sour, 89 pts. I wouldn't keep this a lot longer...
