  • This was opened at 5pm and drank at about 8pm. Initially was subdued but an hour or so into the drinking window this started to open up more with a slightly medicinal but pleasant nose. Compared next to the bouchard reignots 02 the difference was down to a slightly more Oaked bouchard. The CLB was always lighter and more approchable. Shows how CLB has evolved the winemaking. I will always prefer the wines of today over these earlier bottles.

  • Drunk in a great flight with the 02 Meo Richebourg and 02 Leroy Brulees. This bottle was a bit of the straight laced adult in a flight of zany teenagers. Lovely, silky, classy.

  • Very flamboyant nose, super open, menthol, deep red and black fruit, rocking Vosne spice, though a bit brash and hinting at its massive weight and heat. Quite ripe on the palate indeed, slightly over for me with lots of sweetness to the fruit, though with nice earth and spice accents. There’s enough acidity to hold things together, and if you were to have one big glass of wine with dinner this would be a glorious one, however I couldn’t call it ethereal and would never choose it as a session wine. Gears down somewhat on the finish, with a bit of heat showing. Most definitely a big, expressive Burgundy, seemingly in the middle of its drink window. While I preferred the 07’ and 12’ the table may have liked this most.

  • Liger Belair Dinner: Extraordinary aromatic fireworks, so elegant and sexy, this is tough to describe without being salacious. Lush and gorgeous, voluptuous and serious, this is so very impressive. A reference standard wine from one of my favorite vineyards, thrilling.

(Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots) Whilst less forward than the 2003 Reignots, the nose shows a distinct family resemblance. Not just a beautiful depth to the fruit but also width too. It's ripe fruit is very tightly wound and really needs an hour or two in a decanter. Slowly develops a nice coffee note. Very, very good.
