This is in a great place, and this was a really good example. Classic claret profile with cedar, a bit of funk, earthy fruit, wonderful balance of acids-fruit-tannins. It has a resolved motuhfeel while still packing a wallop. This could go a point higher still.
Typical old bordeaux nose. Bottle showed signs of seepage. Huge funky, musty nose, earth, wet forest floor nose. Very easy to drink. Not much left here. It has seen its best days. The color when pouring was fantastic and the wine looked like it was only a few years old, which shocked me. But the power and tremendous flavors had left the building on this particular bottle.
Opened about 1 hour prior to serving. The nose evolved, with brett dominating at first before giving way to more green, herbal aromas. As the wine opened up it showed more cab franc influence, with bell pepper and jalapeno notes. This was side by side with barnyard, dried leather, black cherry, and cassis. The tannins are fully resolved now, and they do a lovely job working with the remaining fruit. This is in a great place, showing complexity and balance along with the classic mature Bordeaux element, sheer class. Drink up.
