  First glass after an hour decant was disappointing. The wine was thin, a little rough, with high toned red fruit (strawberry?) and a funky note. Smoother, darker and deeper after another hour.

  Dark cherry red edge to edge. Plums and tobacco on the nose. Elegant and smooth on the palate. Cherries, sweet tobacco, bit of blueberry, hint of anise. Semi-sweet chocolate on the mid-palate. Smooth tannins, bright acidity, exquisite balance. Finishes long and subtle, cherries and sweet red fruits. Drink next 8 to 10 years.

  PNP and drank over 2 nights. No real improvement between 1st and 2nd night. Last and least enjoyable of my bottles and no where near as good as I remember it. Strange overpowering sour note that hits mid palate and dominates everything else. Bummer.

  I've thoroughly enjoyed the last few bottles of 09 from Spottswoode; sweet and pure blueberry and blackberry fruit, violet, just a whiff of oak spice, but very minimal; beautifully balanced and vibrant on the palate with a long finish.
