  • From a standard bottle size, stored by me since purchase in 2000. Down to last few bottles. There was a lot of sediment as expected. Fairly limpid in the decanter and glass. Tertiary nose of leather, wood and truffle. Lovely sweet fruit but definitely very tertiary. Still had velvet tannins and decent length. A fine old wine.

  • Bought a case on release. This was my last bottle. Ripe fruit on the nose with a hint of roast meat. Rich, concentrated (14.3% abv) and fully integrated; resolved tannins; perfectly balanced and moderate complexity. It's been several years since I opened the last bottle and I was a little concerned that I might have waited too long to open this one. I was wrong. While clearly an old wine, it remains vibrant and fresh. A tribute to Paul Draper!

  • With Bud and Moss for my birthday. Ageing well, with sandlewood characters to the fore. At 14%, this is big and ripe, with some jammy character, but the fruit, the structure, and the balance are all in equilibrium. The wine is certainly aged in character, but in no way does it feel tired - rather it still has a vibrancy, and also a sense that it has transformed into a wine of interest. For my taste, I would have preferred the wine at a earlier date, but it was easy to appreciate the wine’s developed character.

  • Note this was 3.0 Liter - Took to a bday party. With delicious, homemade, made-to-order adult tacos. Wonderful for drinking w/o & w/ food. Ripe, dark fruit, but NOT cooked or oxidized, beautiful color, mild tannin, lovely blend of elements, balanced. Velvety zin blend. Bottle was leaking and middle of cork crumbled on opening so strained into decanter as night went on. All loved it!

Bought for $210 Nov. 2011 at Save the (SF) Bay silent auction fundraiser. Wish we had more!

  • This was tasted next to a '99 Geyserville and fared better according to all in attendance. It was still vibrant, balanced and full of fruit. The nose was more pronounced that the Geyserville and had a different blend of grapes incorporated into the final mix. The Mataro, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet gave it exceptional character and complexion. Black currants, pepper and spice dominated the bold mouthfeel with a sweet finish. Should hold up 3-5 years from now.
