  • Drinking very well but paired against First Growth Bdx didn't hold a candle

  • Pristine bottle with a mid-neck fill and an impeccable cork that looked like it was 10-years old, if that. Clear sherry color. Some mustiness on the nose initially obscuring the underlying autumn leaves, mushrooms and herbal notes. The wine really got going after an hour in the decanter. Dried rose petals, cherry, tobacco and a citrus note on the long sweet finish. Wonderful layers of complexity. Silky smooth with fully resolved tannins. An absolute delight.

  • Mostly Napas and white Burgundies with Washington Winos (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): When you get a wine that is this old, so the saying goes: there are no good wines, only good bottles. Many thanks to Ken Barr for sharing this legendary vintage of a legendary Napa wine. Full body, with richness, but it was hard to get past what fellow taster Ken Brown noted as "swampy" aspects. Perhaps slightly oxidized? It was not singing as one would expect, but I have no experience with this vintage of this wine. All I know is that it is celebrated as coming from a drought year that was hot (as in Bordeaux) yielding concentrated and long lasting wine. It did get better in glass, but it still seemed a bit flawed to me so I would rather say "flawed" than give a subpar score.

  • An incredible bottle of wine. This just shows what a disaster Parker has been for California viticulture. This low alcohol wine is loaded with flavors including most prominently cherries. But it is elegant, pure, and graceful. The flavors are long and lingering on the palate. It is complex without being heavy. What a delight. One of the finest California cabernets I've had the pleasure to drink.

  • Amazing that this still can show amazing complexity and structure after nearly 40 years. A bit flat off the top, it grew into a wonderful bouquet of almond and cherry. Long finish. Not good for very long out of the bottle, but quite impressive.
