Settle Ponti has always been a polarizing wine for me, sometimes Bretty, occasional TCA, sometimes just not good and sometimes really good. This was a good bottle with juicy berry and herbs in the nose with berry, leather and a pleasant acidic bite.

(ORENO Sette Ponti) Ponti Dear Friends, We’ve had an unusual number of requests over the past few weeks for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages of this wine and that usually means one of two things - people are price shopping (spurred by multiple retailer offers) or there’s a new review out there somewhere (or both). We try to listen to your requests, so here goes... I’ve tasted all three vintages of Sette Ponti Oreno mentioned above and, call me crazy, but 2006 is the most serious (by a wide margin). 2006 is one of the finest overall Tuscan vintages of the last few decades and the Oreno took full advantage. While the 2007 version is almost too over the top, the 2006 gets it quite right – tannic and distinguished with a long future ahead. It’s the most complete Oreno yet made and the same can be said for many Tuscan wines in 2006 (a vintage that is closer in style to 2005 in Bordeaux, where 2007 in Tuscany is closer to 2009 in Bordeaux – as far as 2008, I do have a soft-spot for the delicate and unusual style of the year but be warned many of the wines are for those that lean toward the esoteric and not for those that yearn for chewy fruit): I urge you to look up community notes as well. Highish volatile acidity with a silky mouthfeel, keytone and herbs in the nose. A little thin. I’d drink within 2024

I probably like these more than others. Needs to have a short decant, and is a little old world, but is refiined and smooth.
