Oh, how I love thee... The whole of Catalonia (Spain and France) is arguably the most interesting region for a multitude of takes on how to approach and produce/create quality wines in the World. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes quirky, sometimes copycats improving on the original... The quality segment wines by powerhouse Gerard Bértrand are just out of this World.
Tonight's 2011 La Forge is still much too young to be little more than a fruitf**ker. Young Grenache raspberry and anise seeds coupled with a young Carignan vegetal, spicy, tannic backbone.
This is as close as you can get to the top shelf Aussie Shiraz and remain in Europe.
I love these beasts and have one more btl for the long haul. It will grow and live long.
A magnificent wine with massive fruit, that has a lot more to give.
Weekly tasting group RWP #346; Some random wines (@ JdB): Expressive red and dark berries, cherries and flowers. Extremely ripe fruits. On the palate the same impressions, a lot of sweetness, chocolate and oak. No score; not my style.
