This followed an '07 Rhys Horseshoe syrah, which was a much more elegant, restrained and Old World style, while this is a bit more bombastic. Loads of ripe black cherries on the nose, with blackberry and lavender notes. Cherry cough syrup on the palate, finishing a bit hot and tarry. IMO, this is not at all "old world," unless you are talking about modern-styled Chateauneuf de Pape. For $9 + vig at auction, I won't complain.

I expected more from this as DeLille is such a solid producer. Good, but not great. The wine is big and fleshy, with lots of fruit though the tannins seem slightly disjointed and there isn't enough acid to keep it awake. The nose has notes of chocolate, mocha, game and blackberry, while the palate is a touch spicier and has more black fruits to it. Mint? Not bad, but I don't think it's worth the money (coming from an admitted WA Syrah lover.)

perfect! Wonderful, full bodied, earthy, dense with dark color. Excellence blackberry and licorice tastes. Very "old world".
