Retail: $75. Responsible bottle. Predominantly Cabernet Blend, traditionally, but I could not find the precise blend here. Sadly, this is our last bottle of this wine and it was superb. Similar tasting notes.
Retail: $75. While I have tasted countless iterations of the The Poet, the "Ultimate Meritage" blend (Cosentino was at the forefront of creating the "Meritage" category in California), this wine still stands on its head and delivers. Whoa. Dark in both color and aromas, this is, essentially knocks one's socks off (yes, even if you are one to eschew socks). Rich, fruity, layered, complex, there are not enough adjectives to put this wine into perspective. The aspect I love the most? The green pepper aspect which is so often eschewed in winemaking (particularly in the U.S.). Holy cow, and a whoa.
Thought it was at the end 2 years ago but tasted it last night and it is still AMAZING!!!!! Used the coravin to taste it and have 2/3 of the bottle left.

Theme was Napa or Sonoma Meritage or Bordeaux blends, or St. Julien, Pomerol, or St. Emilion. Last bottle. Most guessed California, but this was universally recognized as an elegant, substantive wine. A bit of brick at the edge. Quieter nose than some, but pleasant. The wine is probably at its peak, drinking wonderfully. Smooth and resolved on the palate, fruit and soft tannins in almost perfect balance. Long finish. Sorry to have to say goodbye, but we savored it.

I wrote this a couple of years ago, and it still holds remarkably true: "I picked these up a few years ago for a whopping $20/bottle. At the time, I was a poor grad student, so the six bottles I bought put a serious dent in the monthly budget. Tasting this now? Blackberry, blueberry pie. That means vanilla and even a bit of crème de cassis. I have waxed endlessly about how Cosentino was my gateway into the world of California wine so I won't get into that again, but this wine really takes me back. The wine is likely at it peak as the tannins are nearly fully integrated. I should have doubled down on the ramen noodles and gone all in with this wine, buying all I could find." thedrunkencyclist.com
