Needed light decanting to develop but only a touch. This is as we say the definition of a 90 wine where everything is in place, nothing bad can be said, but lacks the magic, the sparkle in a way what would make it a memorable experience. Especially given this is a 2000 we expected a lot more 89 and drink now
This was decanted for an hour before being rebottled and taken to the restaurant. Prime steakhouse with rib-eyes! This is such a classic Margaux claret. The nose of margaux perfume was so enticing as it warmed in the glass. Red an dark berries, graphite, saddle leather and plenty of violets. The palate matched the wonderful nose with silky, but full tannin that only complemented the mouthfeel. The smooth but fruited tannins and acidity left a wonderfully long finish in the mouth. Really drinking so well now. Hard to think this was a bad investment. Maybe need to source some more.
First night, pop & pour. Quite dark, medium opacity. Very alluring nose- plums, cedar, flowers, licorice, maybe a bit of sweet acetone (but in a good way). This explodes fruit in the mouth, it's absolutely gorgeous right now with fantastic density, some mild minerality and a great cedar thing. It finishes long and smooth, what the best of bordeaux is about. I can't believe how good this is right now, I'm having a hard time containing my enthusiasm. This has changed immensely since I last tried it in 2009. I wish I had another case!
