5 bottles ( well 6 but one broke) double decanted. Top to low shoulder ullage, brittle and well wet corks. 4 bottles were very healthy ( rating based on them) one ( lowest level) was well past and even spiking it with some 2004 did not resurrect it. Still a lot of fruit here, well evolved of course, leather, earthy but still with the old school Bordeaux elegance. An experience for sure and the only thing not singing was the nose which was a bit shy. Solid 91-92 and impressive for its age

Annual Pilgrimage to Chateau Lanessan; 5/23/2014-5/25/2014 (Chateau Lanessan, Bordeaux): Directly from the private cellar of the chateau, original cork with vintage clearly showing. Solid cork. A good bottle, scrap that, a beautiful bottle. Needs like 20 minutes of decanting, but post that it blossomed. No need for more. Fine sediment too. Maybe the better one of the 50s along with the beautiful 52. Vibrant, alive and healthy , good core of fruit still, fully mature but still with lots more to give. 93 and great claret, but be aware it oxidises fast.

Wines like this prove why all of us should drink wines blind more often. While not the best old wine I've ever had, I was blown away by how good this small property was at close to 50 years of age. Still some structure and depth to the old girl, even if the wine was a little tart and slightly thin in the finish. Lots of barnyard in the nose along with wet forest notes
