(Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port) #3; VaynerPAZZZ (based on QPR); COLOR-dark; NOSE-alcohol coming through, but an underlying caramel meets ripe raspberry; really interesting; like caramelized baked goods; PALATE-clearly, as with most fortified wines, a brandy essence; a gorgeous mouthfeel; really nice roundness and quite substantial length; has a lot of nuances that I find interesting; what's really intriguing is the cranberry fruit roll-up layered flavor that comes in on the tail end; easily one of the smoother Ports I've had; from the classic '77 vintage (along w/ '63, '70, '77, '83, '85, '91, '94, '00); there's also no denying the butterscotch/caramel flavors on the mid-palate transition; I like it; RP-96; GV-92

Pre-Super Bowl Gentlemen's Dinner (New Jersey, USA): Decanted at 2pm and served with dessert around 9pm. This was a medium weight port that was still packed with flavor. It had a very forward and welcoming balance to it, not too strong, not too fruity. Rather silky. Full of chocolate-covered cherry flavor and sweet spices. Not the best Port I’ve had but just extremely easy to drink and a great complement to the Chocolate Bread Pudding. Very yummy!

I have had this wine many, many times over the years and it's one of my all-time favorite ports. We opened 2 bottles this weekend that I had recently purchased from a dealer (found via Wine-Searcher) that acquires and sells private wine cellars. These 2 bottles were a shadow of what this wine should be. One was undrinkable, and the other was merely serviceable. As we all know, when you buy a 46-year-old wine, you're at the mercy of the storage history of the bottle. Judging from the other tasting notes here, that is the likely explanation rather than the wine being at the end of its life, so don't be alarmed by my review if you know for a fact that you have well stored bottles.

Didn't spend a lot of time analyzing this one, just really enjoyed it. See previous notes, it is drinking well.
The wine was served with dessert Christmas eve dinner, cheesecake with chocolate sauce. It was an ok combination, but a warm brownie would have been better.

The '77 Taylor is a star from the start, requiring no time at all to dazzle with a cherry, licorice, Christmas pudding profile, its spice expanding in the glass. My only quibble is that this is a bit spirity to drink on its own (as we did here) and would be better suited to service with food to dampen the warmth in the mouth.
