Aged Rousseau dinner at Les Amis. Drank alongside the Beze 81 and Chambertin 73. Medium to dark red, with just a touch of bricking at the rim. Another quite sensational nose of violets, dried roses, olives, smoked meat and damp earth along with raspberries, grapefruit and pomegranate. There was a good amount of minerals, acidity and red fruit on the palate. Very impeccably balanced, this wine lasted extremely well for 3 hours and like the Chambertin 73, showed differing characteristics at differing moments, although there was a strong sense of earth, braised and smoked meat, incense, sandalwood and black tea. With extended time, perfect mouthfeel of dark chocolate and coffee powder. Another brilliantly aged Rousseau!

Begins with smells from the forest floor, all decaying leaves, moss and earth. With air there are notes of Indian spices and cherry and further breathing reveals darker liquorice and blackberry things. It is sweet and vinous with a beautiful texture and a lovely savoury bent. It finishes with a light splash of quinine bitterness. Perhaps may not bring the house down in a line-up against other vintages but an ethereal, cerebral drink to cuddle up to over a couple of hours partnered with a pot roasted Guinea fowl.

Definitely Beze, just a somewhat thin and short rendition. Good looking bottle but began to fade in the glass fairly quickly. 90-91

Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze: 1964 - 2014 (Per Se): Very soft nose that has sweet baking spice, strawberry fading to stewed teas. Palate is soft and short.
