Mm. So let's say its a lil rustic. Let's say it's got a lovely nose of woodash, violets, raspberries. Let's say it's quite smooth and linear but.. oh wait there's more! That finish just hits like out of nowhere and you can picture the barriques and all the countless liters of wine that came before it in that damp place. Like it. And still has at least three years left in it.

Somewhere between ruby and garnet in color. Very interesting spicy/herbal nose that combines bright young berry fruit with cinnamon and nutmeg, but also a smokey/savory/meaty character and some floral lift. Blind, I think I would peg this as a southern Rhone or Languedoc wine based on Grenache and Carignan. On the palate, though, the high acid kills that illusion. The fruit flavors are of blackberry and plum, and it has an aggressive side of smoked herb and earth. Good freshness on the finish, along with moderate but chalky tannin and some more herb. This is not a subtle or shy wine---it shows you what it has and turns the volume up. But there's nothing wrong with that, and the balance is good, as is the value. Nice ballsy wine for similar cuisine, music, or company.

Drank over two nights, no decanting. Medium body, rather concentrated for a Barbera. Paired well with pasta with red sauce but not with Middle Eastern. Expressive nose and palate of cherries, cola, asphalt, with intense smokiness and noticeable salinity. Vibrant acidity and soft tannins. Nice.
