Burgundy WIMPS (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pale/medium mahogany, wide pale rim. Evolved nose, autumnal, vestiges of dried red fruit, earth, floral top note. Light/medium bodied, has an ethereal quality, fine but still quite firm tannins, good length lightly gamey finish. Excellent, and no particular hurry. ****

Decanted. A faint browning to the rim;otherwise pale and clear. Backward nose, some fruit and dust. Mouth bright to start then fruit with delicate sweetness. Some earthy, gamey notes but still quite mute. After around an hour we found the fruit to be coming more to the fore, together with some more earthy, porcini notes. Not very complex but enjoyable for what it was.

A bit closed aromatically, however this had supple flavours of red fruits, earth and game. Still some dusty tannins. Very tasty, elegant and pure but not terribly expressive nor complex.

Vary pale garnet core, wide pale, orangey rim. Delicate nose, sweet strawberry fruit, a gamey and earthy edge developing with time in glass. Light but pleasant on the palate, with a mellow, restrained, silky mid-palate showing sweet red fruit and gamey/earthy notes, some chalky minerality, vigorous acidity and then a little firm, unresolved tannin at the tail end of the medium length finish. Enjoyable, mature Volnay, showing good typicity but perhaps lacking a little depth and density. Now and over the next 2-3 years.
