Dinner at MingHin (Chicago, IL): From magnum. I can see the somm who brought this saying to me, "you are not the target demographic." How right. The typical Washington blue fruit thing on the nose; it's just as ripe as the modernist Napas, but the blue tone is what makes it distinctly Washington. Heady, ripe, and sweet, and marred on the finish with bitter and astringent oak.

Did a side by side with 2008 Cheste4r-Kidder and 2009 Snowden - both dominant CS wines. Snowden was more fruit forward. Both excellent balance with tannins and lingering taste.

(Long Shadows Chester-Kidder Columbia Valley) An aromatically brooding wine with dark, dried fruit, cacao, coffee grounds, and spice. A rich, intensely flavorful, mouthful of a wine loaded with seamless black fruit flavors and dusty, firm tannins. Appropriately, it shows a bit of age but is drinking beautifully right now with a long life ahead of it. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 14% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged 30 months in new French oak. 14.9% alcohol. 1,015 cases produced. Sample provided by winery.
(Long Shadows Chester Kidder Red Wine Columbia Valley) An aromatically appealing wine with tea, high toned cranberries, and dark, brambly fruit. The palate is structured with dark fruit flavors that are incredibly (incredibly) persistent on the finish. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 14% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. 14.9% alcohol. Sample provided by winery.

Over the hill. The fruit is still good but has lost complexity and has turned bland. Not a food wine - it did not pair well with steak.

Nicely mellowed, but still big red. Good balance of fruit, earth. nice lingering taste.
