Second of two Penfolds drunk on the night alongside the also excellent 2008 Bin 620. This 53 year old beauty was relatively full bodied with a very long finish. Despite a slightly damaged cork, under the rarely seen white foil, lots of dark fruit and herb accents. Incredible bottle, only a few left, no need to rush to drink the rest as this still has many, many years left.

Wonderful nose of mulberry and that trademark menthol. Palate is still rich on the attack. Mulberries, blackberries, eucalyptus and menthol. Sandalwood, rosemary and sage, along with the earthiness you get with older Grange. Medium to full bodied, there is elegance as the acidity and tannin are still providing grip and interest. Long, long finish. Multi-layered complexity. Drinking beautifully now and looks as if it will continue for many years to come.

Chez Winefool Goodbye Dinner (Chicago, IL): Nearly mature at 52 years young and my preferred minimum age for this monument of a wine. Excellent concentration of black and blue fruit, smoked meat with minty herb accents. Powerful with refined edges.

The End of Winefoolishness in Chicago (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Amazing youthful for a 50+ yo wine, this seemed half its age. Vibrant and spiced black fruit with wonderful balance and charm. Very rich without losing that great balance.
