EIE well received. Decanted for 1 1/3 hours and still going strong an hour and a half after pouring. Not overpowering for a fruit bomb. Really nice French Bordeaux style food wine (but a bit disappointing for such a great year). This was better than last bottle nearly a year ago. Pretty good fruit, medium dark fruit, and good finish and complexity. Fine tannins still evident. Great with steak. Drinking really well now but does not seem to be signaling any rush. I am glad I have more.
Not what it was in 1995 when it became our "house wine" at $25 a copy. Have cursed Spectator ever since it was the 96 WOTY and price jumped to near $70. For a while it remained a very very good wine, now more recently, this vintage not showing the complexity, and not opening up as well integrated as older. A bit disjointed, should be better in this excellent vintage. Gave it two nights, better the second. A good bottle, just didn't live up to my memory.
