  • Ripe yellow fruit (mango, banana) on the nose. Dry and fruity, lush, delivering loads of ripe fruit with good balance. With more airtime some floral notes emerging too. Very good indeed.

  • Light straw colour, perhaps even a glint of green. A touch of oak on the nose but not much: otherwise, hard-to-pin-down citrus and flint aromas. On the palate, very acidic (in a good way): distinctly dry, mineral and austere when compared to, say, Laroche's other 1er Cry Les Vaillons. Quite a challenging drink at the moment, but I feel it is likely to evolve and mellow nicely. Best to wait till about 2013 before opening too many more bottles - unless you can think of a good food match to tame the acidity a bit.

  • Pale lemon green. Opulent notes of sweet lemon and golden apple mixed with minerally notes of limestone. Light-medium bodied with racy fruit and acidity that can be defined as tart unless paired with food. Good, well balanced wine.
