| Tasted by VoteferPedro on 9/24/2009: Tasted Blind with the Last Thursday Night Wine crew. no specific notes but this did not taste like Geyserville of old. Its fruit was undifferentiated and it was dominated by oak to an extent that we felt was not typical for those of us that used to drink it regularly in 1990s. We felt that the wine was chasing a trend (hopefully past) and utterly lacking any of its former character or value. If you want an over-oaked wine in a Parkerized style, this is it. Juicy but also restrained, as more zins should be, instead ofthe baked prunes and burned berry one finds in many, even top dollar, zins. Zinberry, leather, cigar box in the flavor profile. Plush in the mouth, with enough of a hint of vibrancy to keep it focused. Good acidity, but overall this falls into the Heart's Desire/Pronsolino camp, with a bit too ripe a profile. More of the great brambly notes than the 2006. Well integrated tannins with a nice acidic backbone. Dominant black cherry flavors. There is a smoothness to the wine that I think comes from a couple of years of age on it. It finished with nice touches of the bramble. (1907 views) | |

This changed drastically as it opened up. Was slightly hot at first, but nice and chewy - wasn't sure what to think. Later I started to enjoy it noticing red currants. Dark chocoloate covered cherries und currant, soft tannins, great structure and a long finish. Performed best at the 3rd night. A very good and complete wine with a perfect touch of the "new world".
