| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 98 notes) | | | Tasted by yonster24 on 2/6/2010: Going off memory here, but this was a very nice zin. Red fruit throughout. Medium bodied with excellent juicy acidity that kept this lingering on the palate long after sipping. Would have more notes, but we had a lot of wines that night... no specific notes but this did not taste like Geyserville of old. Its fruit was undifferentiated and it was dominated by oak to an extent that we felt was not typical for those of us that used to drink it regularly in 1990s. We felt that the wine was chasing a trend (hopefully past) and utterly lacking any of its former character or value. If you want an over-oaked wine in a Parkerized style, this is it. We have found many others at a cheaper price from Spain and South America. (917 views) | | | Tasted by Double D on 9/5/2009 & rated 92 points: The best aspects of both the Zin and Cab....resolved beautifully and ready to drink. (851 views) | | | Tasted by guitarguy on 8/23/2009 & rated 90 points: One of the tastier Ridge's from the early double oughts, this wine was a bit reticent in the nose, blueberry, sous bois, mint. Juicy but also restrained, as more zins should be, instead ofthe baked prunes and burned berry one finds in many, even top dollar, zins. Zinberry, leather, cigar box in the flavor profile. Caveat, this is probably about peaked out, so recommend one-two year drinking window. (950 views) | | | Tasted by WindomEarl on 8/16/2009 & rated 91 points: very ripe, very deep and quite friendly at one and the same time. It brings together loads of brambly, blackberry fruit, creamy oak and subtle notes of dark chocolate, and it sports just enough tannin to give spine to its essentially supple style. Drink now it´s at it´s peak!! (1004 views) | | | Tasted by Tarrant on 7/31/2009 & rated 91 points: Always lovely, an excellent blend, elegant yet intense with bottle age beginning to smooth this out very nicely - Dark, well concentrated with a nose of plum, cherry, spice, currant and vanilla on the nose, very well structured/balance, elegant, complex, smooth on the finish with excellent length, well done! (91 Points). (1144 views) | | | Tasted by guitarguy on 6/24/2009 & rated 88 points: Brambly, briar patch, dandelions, smoke and raspberries on the nose. A lighter zin style, cherries, a little heat, touch of bell pepper. Good, falls short of very good. (1388 views) | | | Tasted by cmclean on 5/27/2009 & rated 92 points: Beautiful sweet nose, floral almost. Still dark fruit, but becoming redder with air. The tannins of youth have melted away to leave behind a velvety, medium bodied, very pretty wine. I could hardly slow down to enjoy it, it was so good. Wish I had more. (1503 views) | | | Tasted by gutt22 on 5/24/2009: So we had tasted the three parts; how did the sum of the parts measure up? Very ripe nose, with black fruit and spice. Plush in the mouth, with enough of a hint of vibrancy to keep it focused. Good acidity, but overall this falls into the Heart's Desire/Pronsolino camp, with a bit too ripe a profile. Too much alcohol, kind of boring. Firm tannin (for Geyserville). I actually put this one ahead of the 2001 in ranking, though neither particularly appealed. It retained that tight filtered control Ridge does so well but with a deep, satisfying finish. Didn't open up quite as much as I had hoped but an excellent bottle with plenty to distinguish itself. (1717 views) | | | Tasted by WetRock on 2/18/2009: Dinner at Prime Cut Cafe (Prime Cut Cafe): I was looking forward to this but felt let down. The ripest Geyserville, or Ridge Zin for that matter, I have had. Nail polish on the nose was ominous. Palate very light lacking concentration and the structure you usually see with this bottle and Ridge products in general. Very ripe fruit. (1865 views) | | | Tasted by Beavis77 on 1/21/2009: Wine 2 of Ridge Zinfandel Tasting: Nose of black cherries. Not so much of the blackberry as the 2006. A bit of cigar box. More of the great brambly notes than the 2006. Well integrated tannins with a nice acidic backbone. Dominant black cherry flavors. There is a smoothness to the wine that I think comes from a couple of years of age on it. It finished with nice touches of the bramble. (1907 views) | | | Tasted by BigNightOut on 12/26/2008: With xmas appetizers. Not gonna rate this one cuz i think it was an off bottle - maybe stored improperly? Cork broke - decanted. This changed drastically as it opened up. Was slightly hot at first, but nice and chewy - wasn't sure what to think. Later I started to enjoy it noticing red currants. After dinner a floral aspect emerged that was very, very odd. (1869 views) | | | Tasted by grapeyman on 12/21/2008 & rated 91 points: Usually like Ridge Geyserville and this was no exception. Overall balanced and smooth. It's got the typical dark fruit with more complex flavors as well. Good juice. (1844 views) | | | Tasted by Medo on 12/11/2008 & rated 91 points: Tasting notes from the 3rd night: Lovely jammy nose with dark cherries, red currant and hints of cola. Great mouthfilling fruit on the palate. Dark chocoloate covered cherries und currant, soft tannins, great structure and a long finish. Performed best at the 3rd night. A very good and complete wine with a perfect touch of the "new world". Yum! Fruit forward -- black cherry and red currant, especially on the nose. Very smooth tannins. A little jammy at first. However, once the wine has a little time to open up, there's a little more leather and classic zin spice/pepper that come out. Drank the split. Glad I also have a full bottle in the cellar.
