Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Honestly, I am not sure if I could tell a varietal difference between the 1908 Boal I just had and this wine. But I am lucky, I can try them side by side and offer comment back in just a moment.

But for now, I should mention that I am working out of two glasses -- a Riedel Sangiovese and a Riedel Aqua Viete (sp?) glass. After reading Richard Jennings (sp? again, sorry) article on a tasting done a d'Oliveiras it seemed to me that the AV glass came pretty darn close to what they were tasting out of.

But in any case, the wine -- it doesn't quite have the acidity of the 1908 Boal but man is that acid high. And if this has more sweetness than the Boal I am not sure that I can really pull that out over the Boal. This seems a touch more out of balance with a longer finish but that may be my novice maderia palate showing through.

Some sort of deep everygreen, earthy, loamy funk that wasn't there on the Boal.
