    Brasserie St-Feuillien
    Farmhouse Ale - Saison
    6.5% ABV
    28 IBU
St-Feuillien’ Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium.
Saison, a warm golden blonde ale, is a top-fermented classique.
Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang.
Saison, the latest in a long line of top-quality St-Feuillien beers, is a “hoppy”, unfiltered beer that is so emblematic of the rich Belgian tradition.

  • Cloudy, slightly maroon yellow color with a big and persistent white head. Nuanced, sophisticated and expressive nose with aromas of spice, Belgian yeast esters, some attractive sourness, a little grass and fruity nuances of lemon, peach, apple blossom and pear. Light to medium-bodied, dry palate with a touch of sweetness in the tip of the tongue. Powerful, rich and sspicy flavors of peach, apple, ripe lemon, lemon marmalade, grainy malt, some Belgian yeast esters and a hint of honeyed caramel malts. Very soft, smooth and slightly tingly carbonation. A slightly tart and crisp finish with rich fruity flavors, some refreshing lemony citrus fruit, a little earth and slightest hint of hop bitterness. The beer leaves a long, refreshing and balanced impression in mouth.

A wonderful saison and a good example of the high quality of St. Feuillien. A complex, dry and refreshing beer that is a real textbook example of a clean, fruity summer saison. Not really a sour beer, but has still attractive tartness. Good stuff, recommended. A good purchase at 4,25€.

  • Hazy orange marmalade color with a big and fluffy white head. Complex, characterful and even slightly dirty nose with aromas of funky Belgian yeast, ripe apples, estery peaches and a hint of understated citrusy hop character. Dry, crisp and refreshing on the palate with pronounced phenolic spice, herbal aromatics, pale malt, some savory woody character, light earthy notes and sweeter hints of peach and caramel. Quite light to medium body with very small and fine but still ample carbonation. Lovely, refreshing wheaty tartness. Quite long and somewhat earthy finish with modest hop bitterness and flavors of herbs, fresh apples, some peach-driven fruit and a hint of grainy pale malt.

A classic, rustic farmhouse ale. Something not unlike an Orval, only without its overtly funky character. Very nice, enjoyable and refreshing effort; definitely one of the better Belgian saisons out there. Not one to challenge Saison Dupont, but definitely good enough. A bit expensive at 8€ for a 33 cl bottle, but worth it.

  • NOSE: grassy, with notes of orange, lemon, and spice; hint of Belgian yeast, too. Almost smells like it will be a touch sour. complex.

BODY: active, frothy whitish head; healthy carbonation; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: frothy; moderately rich; clean; lemon-infused black tea; hint of orange peel; 6.5% alc. well-hidden; easily one of the top 5 Saisons I've had --- possibly the best. 10/10.
