  • Decanted for sediment. Nose of cassis, black cherry, a bit of toasty oak, dark chocolate and menthol. Similar flavors on the palate with a good amount of black fruit still present, although slightly dried, and a bit of charred wood to go along with some nice herbal, minty notes. Medium acid, medium to medium+ tannin and good length on the finish. Still plenty of life in this wine but I would likely drink over the next few years while the fruit is still there, especially since the acidity is not.

  • 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D’s): Blind. Currants, leather and lavender. Soft tannins. Abundant dark plummy fruit on the palate. Holding nicely.

  • 4th Saturday Group (M&R's): Blind. Perfumey and elegant, with currant and licorice notes as well. Black fruit on the palate; balanced wit a lingering finish. This is just a really nice wine with some tannin to shed yet, but the fruit is nice and there's plenty of it.

This had been double decanted just over two hours before the flight was poured. I did not pick this out as our Match, but I am very pleased with how this is showing today.

  • I haven't done a tasting note in a while, but this one inspired me. This wine is quite dark, not really bricking on the edges, but not purple, either. Vibrant red is how I would describe it. The nose is caramelized-brown-sugar-coated blackberries, with a touch of cassis, a little bit of tangerine citrus, and just a hint of saddle soap. Overall, I'm surprised by the sense of sweetness on the nose, but the overall effect is rich and deep. The palate retains the blackberry and cassis on the entry, but the sweetness is de-emphasized as the citrus comes forward. There's a fair amount of citrus-peel bitterness on the mid-palate, but not unbalancing at all. The back end repeats the hints of leather and maybe adds a little touch of smokiness, as well, while allowing the fruit to still shine through. There is still just a touch of tannic dryness on it. The one drawback may be just a touch of heat as one takes the swallow, but that fades as the wine goes down, and you are left with a great balance of black fruit, herbs, earth, and just a touch of vanilla, all of which lasts a good long time between sips. This is in a magical spot, and I truly wish I could get more. Really great now, but with the stuffing to last five to ten years or even longer. Have it with a good charcoal-grilled ribeye and all the usual accompaniments, and you will be living the good life. Great wine.

  • Red and black fruit. Smooth tannins. Long finish. One of the best Match cabs I've had.
