  • Several days later from memory so no detailed notes. Just wanted to lodge an impression of this beautiful wine drinking at its peak with no obvious end in sight. Great intensity of flavors but also quite supple in texture. Every sip a pleasure.

  • Medium ruby, delicately perfumed nose of black licorice, red cherry, red currant and violet with hints of mushroom and mocha, almost stinging on the attack followed by beaming red cherry fruit, earth and juicy acidity, finish is surprisingly straightforward and dominated by bright red fruit but with lingering earthy notes, powdery tannins and burnt orange

  • In a perfect place tonight. Floral, focused fruit and crushed stone. Feminine with tart fruit, cedar and spice on the palate-gorgeous vibrant acidity. Still young but just starting to open up.

  • Decanted four hours. Cherry fruit scents emit from the bottle right after uncorking. Later at dinner, Sarah cites the bubble gum notes. Very round and smooth palate, symmetrical, balanced. Fills the mouth nicely, yet no part alone comes on too strong. Great balance, nice length. Tannins are soft and plush. With Sarah at Marta, NYC.

The following night, just like on the first night, scents of red fruit fill the room right after pulling the cork. No degradation over night, still lovely, round, cherry fruit, very balanced palate, very harmonious. Tannins are just starting to break down. Finish is long, fresh, clean, with dark cherry-menthol notes.

  • Judgment of Madrid, the time for aficionados plus a late dinner (Vila Viniteca - Madrid): Love it or hate it, usually that's the dichotomy when you're speaking about Aldo Conterno.
That also was in my own experience until today. This time was almost neutral, I mean, Nebbiolo on the nose but at the timid side. Palate is tannic and fruity as you were expecting but lacks complexity. Quite simple after all. I would like something else for such a kind of vintage like 2001 is.
Anyway really especial pairing white truffle.
