  • Wish I could have spent more time with this. No formal note. This reminded me of the 75 Balbach Scheurebe Eiswein that I've had a few times - lots of flavors, many exotic and good weight, but not as focused as it could be. I seem to remember sweet peach and some musky tropical elements and some spice, maybe some minerals?

  • Chicagoer Rieslingfeier (Chicago, IL): #27-92, 8.5% abv. From half bottle. Ridiculously dark colour that was concerning, but then we all tasted it and all was right with the world. A really fun bottle of Dönnhoff, and certainly a very rare one. There's a very, very strong note of apples on this, as well as a white grape flavour. Raisin juice? Very sweet, but ample acidity to keep it from getting cloying.

  • Crisp and clean with for lack of a better term "Eiswein" freshness-suspended animation fruit profile. Great acidity, and fruit like fresh squeezed juice. This has the smoke and apricot flavors of pinot gris, with great clarity and freshness. Tonight day 14, it is richer and denser with more creme brulee, cashews, apricot preserves, caramel, and honey while maintaining its freshness and acidity. There is an excellent juxtaposition of creaminess matched with the acidity and clarity. Barely outstanding on the first day and stupidly good tonight. 95 pts

  • Todd Tucker Dinner (Jeff): Deep orange color. Orange honeycomb nose. Tastes of orange blossom, tangerine, and lemon. Steely minerality. Crisp acidity. Rich, powerful finish. 8.5% alcohol. Brought by Jock.

  • Mature golden in color. On the first night, already a truly attention grabbing nose of rosewater, flowers, honey, and white fruits, but the palate was a bit unfocused the first night (and that is spiltting hairs as it was still great). By the second day all the fogginess on the palate became laser sharp. This has great freshness and cool apricot-smoky Pinot Gris flavors, but with a distinctly non-Alsatian slant. Great acidity and freshness, like the fruit was almost frozen and the freshness captured and preserved in suspended animation (go figure). The fruits morphed from white fruits, to apricot, to orange marmalade over time. More honeyed richness and while it has secondary complexity the fruit remains so pure and clear. I have never had a German PG-grauburgunder Eiswein before, and very few dry german pinot gris-grauburgunders, but count me impressed. A great balance of acidity freshness, fruit all the while maintaining wonderful lightness. I think I would have only really enjoyed the wine if I drank it all the first night. The second night it was sublime. It did fade after the second night, but was in all its glory on day two. Outstanding 96pts.
