Closed nose. Palate with some white pepper, currants, berries and mocha. Spicy oak finish, with slightly dry tannins. Not a lot of depth here, but balanced.

Santa Barbara Trip - July 2011; 7/1/2011-7/6/2011: Tasted at the winery. Dark wine with blue & black fruits on the nose, and a touch of smokey meat. Good mouthfeel that makes it easy drinking. A little bland on the palate, but nothing really wrong with it.

Consumed over 4 days. After the 4th night of being open, the oak integrated enough for this wine to be somewhat enjoyable. The toasty oak on this was so overwhelming I really couldn't taste much else. So, the rest of this note is after the 4th night. On the nose, a bit tight, but some blueberry, cassis, meat juice, and vanilla. On the palate, dense blueberry, vanilla, and spicy oak is pretty much it. The mid-palate fades a bit and the finish is short. Good balance with some acidity kicking in. Overall, I just can't get past the heavy handed oak treatment on this wine. This wine cost me $16 and there are plenty of wines with this flavor profile for under $10 (any McManis red, Tobin James Chateau Le Cacheflo, etc.). I know a lot of people love this super-oaky style of wine, but don't count me among them. To me, it is just very boring wine.

- Garnet color with medium forming legs and aromas of blackberry. It's somewhat balanced with a light/medium body. Linear texture with a short finish.
