  • Definitely smooth and enjoyable, but the secondary flavors are still a bit dominated by the oak. Either give it 2-3 hours of air or wait another 3-5 years.

  • Poured this for several others...they all seemed to like it, predictably I guess, but the wine shows way too much liquid tree for me to enjoy. The concentration and grip are good, getting around all the wood is a problem.

  • A major Red Mountain 'Fail' from my perspective. Oak imparted vanilla drapes the nose and palate. Hints of Red Mountain terroir barely manage to peak through the profusion of wood. The concentration is good and the vanilla driven finish is decent. I have another bottle with which I will try to coax out anything other than liquid vanilla. No point in paying for Red Mountain wines if all that makes them amazing is heavily cloaked in wood.

  • Lots of ripe fruit, medium/full body and fleshy soft tannins. Medium finish. Overall, very drinkable and a great value

  • if your in the mood for new world and your pocket book is tight, grab one of these babies. Its a definite crowd pleaser minus the huge tariff, it will also hang with the big boys so you can take it to a higher end tasting..i would recommend (blind) to avoid any pre-bias...I guess the winery holds these back for a few years since they are just hitting the market here in Orlando (or we're just so behind)...either way this wine is jam packed with black currant, black cherry, hints of dill, coconut and drops of vanilla. Fun stuff if your in the mood and already has the aged on it. Tasted next to another Washington wine the '05 Dunham Reserve Merlot, twice the price of the Kiona, but similar in profile. Until next wine...
