Couleur vermillon tirant vers le tuilé, ocelle orangée, assez mobile, brillance moyenne, dépôt de matière. Nez puissant de fruits rouges très marqué (fraises), de sous-bois, et de cuir. Fond de graphite et d'eucalyptus. Attaque ronde sur la fraise surmurie, le cassis. Fond de bois brûlé et de cuir. Belle expression de puissance en bouche. Jolie finale sur des tanins arrondis très intégrés qui présente de belles notes de fruits noirs et de cuir. Dégusté à l'aveugle. Couleur trahissant un vin assez avancé, mais belle structure en bouche sur des aromes de fraises très marqués. Très plaisant mais largement dominé par le Clos du Marquis 1982 (96+).
Clear. Light tawny. Clean. Developing. Intense nose, very good concentration and a very complex nose. Sweet red berries, red fruits and dark fruits, a very wide specter of fruits and some very refreshing green notes. It has a very light feeling, elegant, subtle, but a massive intensity, sweet entry, balanced. Very long finish, not disturbed by the fairly present tannins.
After some more air: It has become very complete. Seamless, incredibly sexy and charming nose. Complexity that keeps on evolving. The sweet notes of fruit and the notes of ageing has come together perfectly. Very, very long finish.

(Cheval Blanc) The last wine of this fascinating retrospective was the 1986 Cheval Blanc. The Cheval had its classic wintergreen aroma, along with red fruits and green olives. There were great flavors of cranberry, strawberry, interior leather and curds n’ whey. It was tender and pretty, more open than the previous two wines, adding wintergreen and game flavors (93).
(Chateau Cheval Blanc St Emilion) A mature, brick-red hue. Very mature nose, all macerated plum fruit and damson jam, with a little mint on the side. Lovely, elegant finesse on the palate, with a full, creamy presence. A very fluid, lithe, seamless presence, really quite elegant, with plenty of plum jam and tobacco character. This is lovely wine. Drink now.
