Krug Dinner (Yusho - Chicago IL): Decanted an hour+ before serving. Incredibly dark color. Black fruit aromas with good floral background. Starts with big and powerful fruit on palate with a slightly sweet, slightly caramelized character. Picks up elegance from middle to end, finishing with a real sense of charm and finesse.
I tasted this at a wine tasting, and it was also a fabulous wine. It is medium bodied, 12.5% alcohol and has a light/medium ruby red color to it, it lightening at the rim, but no browning yet. It gave off aromas of mushrooms, red berries, roses, tobacco, slight hints of mint and spices. It tasted of red berries, cassis, tobacco, rose petals, slight mint and rhubarb. Nice long aftertaste! This wine is nowhere near finished, it has at least 10 to 20+ more years in it.
Quite opaque and full colour to the edge. Started with a reticent and slighty shot nose, with flavours to follow. A scant 15 minutes of being opened made this bloom into a very rich and coffee-laden wine with strong acids, plum fruit and a broad body. A fair degree of power here though at the expense of precision. Long finish with tobacco notes, angelica and bresaola. Not a perfect wine (and way younger than expected), but a perfect drinking experience especially with a light Christmas supper of roast Guinea hen w/ champagne-parsley sauce, girasole gratin and asparagus.
