{cork, 13%} There was evidence of a bit of a leak; a vein up the side of the cork, though the level wasn't too bad. But the wine was sherry... No joke!

This could prove to be an expensive bottle of wine for me in the long term; until now every Lirac I've had has obviously been too young - tannic, unbalanced, a little hard. This is as soft as velvet. Just beginning to show signs of age at the edge, but mainly dark purple. Nose of soft leather, liquorice, Agen prunes, a little smoked bacon/meat, sweet paprika and vanilla. Medium to heavy body but soft and supple, acidity to give a serious ability to deal with food but good on its own. Lingers with scents of rose ans smoked cherry (!).

Dark, purply-black red. Heavy nose of black fruits: damsons, plums with an edge of geranium leaves. Smooth boiled sweet fruitiness bringing in cherries and tobacco with some tannin remaining, giving it 2 to 3 years' more development. Very full-bodied, a serious wine lacking only in the complexity of a Chateauneuf-d-P.
