  • A profound tasting experience...
A wine of this age that not only appears fresh with a hue more typical of a 20 or 30 year old Medoc wine but that holds for 4 hours after opening commands a cerrain respect.
Mid-shoulder fill level. Well settled with little sediment. I wonder when this was actually bottled? After the war?
Cork in excellent condition despite the age and challenges of operating a winery at that time.
The dominant aromas were those of cedar, cloves, allspice, leather, shiitake mushrooms and ashes. Quite intense. I didn't expect fruit at 82 years of age..
I could have been cellared for another decade. Remarkable.

  • The big 4-0 (Ristorante Morini): It is amazing to think this wine is older than my parents and I am very sure that if served blind most people wouldn't get anywhere near guessing right vintage. These Rioja surely can age. Touch of the tomato paste, some red fruits, some leather. It wasn't quite as interesting to me as some of the other bottles, but the history and interest to it given the age were pretty astonishing. If guessing, I'd have said 90's or maybe 80's.
