This one is way past its prime, a dull dark purple color with evident bricking. Aromas and flavors of "grapey" dark plums, stewed prune, and black olive. The Australian 2003's had a reputation for fading fast; I had mis-inventoried this as a 2005. Drinkable, but with lots of good wine, why bother? Dumped down the sink. A previous bottle enjoyed around 2008 was very good.
I enjoyed this wine very much. Very unusual nose, complex and unusual notes on the palate. It was almost gamy at first, but it evolves into roast beef, mint, chocolate, and cola both on the palate and nose. The fruits on this are very focused and almost syrupy. It might have a little bit of time left in it but I would recommend drinking it pretty soon. It was so rich and ripe that I think that any richer and it would start to turn raisin like. Nevertheless, very unique and distinguishable. I like it.
