The regular Honig Sauvignon Blanc is an affordable and reliable staple of our wine rack, so I tried this Rutherford Reserve (priced about $15 more than the standard) with some skepticism that it could be that much better. I was not disappointed. Peach, melon, grapefruit and honeysuckle are all discernible on the nose along with a hint of spice. Very fruity on attack, citrus and grassy notes, but with much more body mid-palate than its sibling -- likely due to the noticeable but not overbearing oak and the blending in of Semillon and Muscat. It has a long, crisp finish with a minerality that is offset with slightly sour citrus notes. The complexity and eccentricity is a delightful change from Honig's usual offering. Worth the extra money for a little splurge. Drink 2011-2013.

Classically styled, in the some vein as, say Chalk Hill's Sauvignon Blanc, this is rich with melon, straw, mango-like tropical fruit and oak notes. Medium bodied with medium- to medium acidity. Well balanced for the genre.
