  • Popped, tasted and let sit for a day- upon opening the wine was full of dusty asphalt coupled with a sour acidity.

The next day, the wine softened into something pretty damn good... Aromas of black cherry, dry herbs, and got earth, the wine comes of very mature, with supple black cherry dominating the mouth assisted by some pretty strong earthy tannins (this HAS to be aglianico...). Overall, worth the wait. Some really nice wine here.

  • The wine pours a very dark garnet in color, decanted for 3 hours prior. Upon opening the wine showed vegetable, tar, and tobacco notes with a dominant flavor of black cherry and earth. The wine had a strong structure with silty, firm tannins.

After the decant, the wine lost it's vegetable notes and changed to black plums, black cherry, tar, fermented tobacco, and asphalt. Flavors of black cherry still dominate, but the time allowed more herbal notes to show in the wine, most notably, sage and chaparral. The structure is still very firm, standing up easily to the steak we had the wine with.

Overall, I think the wine is on the back-end of the hill, but is still drinking very nicely.

  • Very dark, thick. Dried blackberries & seared earth. Over a few hours, the tannins fade, leaving a rich mouthful of pleasure.

  • Again, similar to my October bottle. Although this was supposedly to be drunk by 2007, and now I've drunk my last bottle, I think this was overcautious, since it is showing beautifully and has no sense of reaching beyond its peak. Very deep color with tobacco and earth and dark cherries on the nose. Chewy luscious fruit with definite acidity that was the perfect choice for a celery root citris salad at our easter meal -- really cut the citris, but went with it because of its own citris notes, and the chewy fruits that contasted with the salad.

  • Fascinating deep wine. Color is extra dark, black-purple. Nose is full of tobacco, earth and dark cherries. Taste continues with the tobacco and blackberries and dark cherry fruit with substantial unctuous tongue feel along with rising tannins that put a pucker at the end.
