  • Reminds me more of a good Californian red than Rioja (or right bank Bordeaux). Nevertheless it is enjoyable, and good value.

A little less ripeness, a bit more acidity would have welcome.

    {14%, cork}.

  • Dark ruby in colour, initially bursting with berries from the open bottle, the nose quickly subsides to a more subtle yet complex mix of dark cherry, soft summer berries and chocolate. Lots of dark berry fruit on the palate with a firm and still quite grippy structure. There is good freshness and lots of tar and oak before a medium long cherry and bitter chocolate finish with hints of BBQd meat. Despite its age, this wine still feels young. The usual Rioja blood and meat flavours have not yet fully emerged. Currently it reminds me of a Left Bank Bordeaux rather than classic Rioja. It should get more complex as the tannins soften and the puppy fat falls away. Very good now but needs decanting. It will be interesting to see how it develops over the next 5 years.

  • From the wine list at ABC Cocina (NYC). Decanted and poured - definitely opens up aromatically with a bit more air. Really interesting wine and something a bit different for us. This was very soft on the palate, no really harsh tannins, smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Red raspberries and brambly notes, some earth and minerals. Paired really nicely with the tapas cuisine particularly the BBQ pork tacos.

  • Complex, layered, balanced - entering drinking window- great vintage!
Lively, changing taste with airation, red berries, coconut, cherries, oak, bacon.
Later it gains complexity and fruit, black berries, funky wild berries, mulberries, milk chocolate.
    Balanced and full, decant!
