Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Fall edition (@home): Glass: Zalto Universal Popped and poured, tasted blind on day one, drunk over two days. Clear, deep golden amber. On the nose rather muted, some musty notes, not showing the classic Scheurebe flavors. On the palate rather flat, sweet and not very complex. This must be an off bottle. No rating.

Popped and poured. Attractive nose of white flowers, apricots and quince. The wine is exuberant, medium bodied, showing layers of concentrated sweet ripe fruit with tropical accents and cinnamon. This is clearly the product of a warm year and is a little over extracted but that being said has aged well and still has plenty of gas in the tank.

Oktoberfest: 2009 Germans (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): I cannot stress enough how much this wine exhibits pure and utterly unrestrained apricot essence. The aromas are unique and almost sickly sweet in character with notes of apricot, guava, and underlying stones. The palate offers much of the same with heady dense flavors of apricot, honeyed spices, petrol, and underlying minerals. The flavors just go on and on pushing more of an Auslese level of opulence, density, and persistence. I have to admit this wine is nearly over the top but the character is unique enough to provide a great experience.
