  • Unfortunately, this wine's name defines my tasting experience all to well - Fiasco. It was purchased on WineBid in 2015 and stored in a temperature controlled unit since.

The cork crumbled upon opening and the wine poured tawny in color. The nose is muted and showed balsamic vinegar, mushroom and forest floor notes with essentially no fruit present. The palate mirrors the nose while it still shows medium acid and tannin it's obviously well past peak. I suspect this wasn't properly stored before being auctioned off at WineBid. I'm not scoring it, not because I believe it is flawed, but rather, I believe it was abused.

  • Bouquet of ripe cherries, dark plums, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with well-structured tannins and notes of leather, earth, and truffle. The finish is long and satisfying.

  • This bottle showed up as still very young. No hint of aging, tannins are present with lots of fruit, smoke, some roses. Very nice texture and long aftertaste.

  • A little late in the plateau. Brown on the edges and getting a little prune as the structure recedes.

  • Gorgeous. Given a couple hours of air to stretch its legs, this medium-garnet wine has bricking to the edge, showing gorgeous notes of dried blood orange, sottobosco, truffle, prune, sandalwood, and a hint of licorice. On the palate, all these elements come together beautifully, the tannins stating this is clearly from Castiglione Falletto. A beauty of a wine that can be enjoyed now and surely has at least another decade of fine drinking ahead of it.
