Root Day - another ‘found in the cellar’ wine. Dark garnet core out to a wide raspberry red edge. Interestingly, that’s what I got immediately off the nose on a pop and pour - raspberry compote and red roses. After a couple of minutes, along with the aforementioned, there’s vanilla and sweet cooking herbs. On the palate it’s ripe and smooth but there’s enough tannin and acid there to keep it interesting. Simple flavours of red plum, raspberry, strawberry and spice (cloves dominant along with cinnamon). There’s also just a touch of black licorice on the back end. The finish is quite long (med plus) with the red fruit and spice continuing. Simple but clean and still youthful and extremely pleasant.

Pretty neat! Delicious, lush fruit , quiet tannins , long finish. Had this with lamb stuffed portobello mushrooms and it was a great fit. The wine got softer during the evening. It is a bit fat on the alcohol at 15, but all in all a very nice wine. I would think it is at a peak place right now.

What this red blend lacks in complexity, it more than compensates for in outright deliciousness. Lusty, without being pruney. Last of my 6 bottles, and every time it made me feel like I was wandering through the vineyard where the grapes were grown. Boysenberry, earth, and spice.
