This is the second great bottle of 2000 CdP I have had over the past two weeks. We bought this at the winery many years ago. Gorgeous garnet color with a pink rim. Inky, sweet red and black fruit is mature in nature. There is a serious injection of garrigue that elevates this wine brilliantly. Smooth texture - perfectly mature. Only nit is a lack of mid-palate depth - but I am reaching. Yum. Based on these two examples, the 2000's are just singing right now. (93)
Opened the last two for Easter dinner - grilled NZ lambchops. The first opened immediately. On this one the cork was half red. The second bottle was a bit funky on the first pour and the red barely penetrated the cork. After a couple of hours, the wines tasted the same. And they were excellent! Drink now - we do not see age improving these any further.
Purple color with some brown in the rim. Rather modest bouquet and flavor that bring plums to mind, but with none of the complexity that is a hallmark of a great CDP. Not unpleasant, but not exciting. My CDPs have not aged very well in my cellar, which is too bad, as I love these wines.
Decanted for 1 hour+ before drinking along with a big '04 California cab and later an '07 Turley Zinfandel. No detailed notes. Very well received; three out of four thought it was the best of the night. Earthy, rich, medium-bodied; exactly what one would expect from a reasonably aged CnP. Very nice wine.
