  • A crumbly cork and a wine the colour of golden syrup did not bode well: surely this was going to be grossly oxidised? The nose showed just a whiff of kerosene, with the overall impression being something like baked apples. And on the palate it turned out to be much fresher than the colour suggested it would be; none of the 'limey' flavours the label suggests, in fact no fruit at all, but noticeable acidity and a pleasant if unexpected salt-caramel note. A good match for caramelised onion tart. 11.5%
